Elected officials must be free of monetary influences of the special interests that come before the City Council.

I place a high value on the contribution and dedication of the city employees. In 2015 the City Council will be required to vote on the new employees' labor contracts. It does not serve the city's long-term interests when the employees' bargaining units provide City Council candidates with endorsements and financial support for their campaigns.

I also value the developers who build new housing for Sunnyvale residents, and build the modern office buildings for people who come to work in Sunnyvale. But City Council members must vote on many of these developer's applications for high-density housing and huge office buildings. It does not serve the city's long-term interests when these same developers contribute to City Council candidates' campaigns.

I will not accept any campaign donations or endorsements from anyone who does business with the city, or from any political action groups that represent anyone who does business with the city.

Councilman Whittum has proposed a study issue for 2014 which would bar council members from voting on items that involve parties that contributed to council member campaigns. If you elect me to the Sunnyvale City Council, I will absolutely vote to approve this study issue.
