I served on the city's Sustainability Commission because environmental stewardship is one of my passions.

In order to reduce the city's use of fossil fuels and to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, I will give my full support to replacing the Water Pollution Control Plant, which is the city's largest consumer of energy, and the city's largest emitter of greenhouse gas.

I will support building out the city's recycled water distribution system to deliver recycled water to more commercial office properties, as well as every city park in the middle and southern parts of the city.

While serving on the Sustainability Commission, I worked on the Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) sub-committee. A CCA would give residents the option of purchasing electricity from a conglomerate of "green" producers, instead of forcing residents to buy electricity from PG&E. For residents who select the CCA option, PG&E would continue to be responsible for the transmission, distribution and maintenance of the local grid. This is the single most important step Sunnyvale can take to meet California's goal of reducing GHG emissions.

Sunnyvale's Zero Waste Strategic Plan set a goal of diverting 90% of the solid waste stream by 2030. This requires increasing recycling and improving sorting of compostable material at the SMaRT Station. In order to reach these aggressive goals, the city must control its operating expenses in order to keep this project fully-funded, and to properly fund replacement of the SMaRT station in 2020.
